Harold switches to electronic newsletter, rolls out new catalog
LAKEWOOD, N.J.--Just in time for the International Home and Housewares Show that gets underway March 16-18, Harold Import Co. sent out the fourth edition of its new electronic newsletter March 13.

HIC E-News replaces the Harold Tribune--the kitchenware distributor's quarterly newsletter that was circulated via snail mail for more than 20 years--and is sent to retailers by e-mail about 10 times a year, according to Robert Laub, marketing director. HIC E-News contains current news, new products, industry information and promos.

"We thought that e-mail would be a better way to go. It's more cost effective and we're able to reach more people and be more creative by including graphics, links and attachments," Laub explained.

In the latest edition of HIC E-News, the importer plugs its new 2008-2009, four-color, 260-page catalog it will roll out at the International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago. The catalog features more than 300 new products, including HIC Porcelain dinnerware items in its open stock program. "We've added eight new shapes to our open stock dinnerware and introduced the open stock program for table linens and for flatware and serveware," Laub said. "We feel that the independent retailer is an open stock seller. It allows people to pick and choose and mix and match products." Harold puts out a catalog every two years. This is its largest book to date, according to Laub.

Some editions of HIC E-News will be sent out during specific times of the year, like before a trade show, while others may be topic specific and feature news from a particular manufacturer, Laub said. Current customers and "customers-to-be" are receiving the e-mail, Laub said.
