ebay, World of Good create shopping site
EMERYVILLE, Calif.--World of Good Inc. and eBay have created a one-of-a-kind e-commerce marketplace where people, sellers and products from across the globe come together to promote "eco positive" and "people positive" products including coffee and tea, tableware, pottery and jewelry.

WorldofGood.com by eBay went up Sept. 3--a project both companies worked on for 18 months prior to the site's release--and features "a variety of stuff to buy in one place," said Priya Haji, CEO and co-founder of World of Good, Inc., "from your morning coffee, to an outfit to wear to a housewarming party to buying the gift to bring to the housewarming party." Here shoppers can make purchase decisions that align with their individual values.

Products on the site are listed by the sellers themselves, Haji noted, so when consumers purchase an item, they're buying directly from the seller.

The site enhances "people-to-people trade," Haji said, for example, "Numi Tea can list their fair trade tea, and they set the price, capture the sale." But with every purchase, 10 percent goes to the cost of the site, though the "bulk of the money goes to the seller," she added.

But finding an assortment of items in one forum is only a fraction of the site's mission.

"I want every American to realize that their shopping choices can be a force for good, and they can help thousands of people through a simple choice like a chocolate bar they pick," Haji added.
