So far this year, the specialty food company, based here, has expanded its distribution to more than 2,000 stores, representing an 84 percent growth, for its Canterbury Naturals Artisan Soup Mix and Baking Mix Collections.

"This year was the right time for growth for the company, so they set a goal at the beginning of the year to grow the Canterbury Naturals line. After identifying where their target customers are shopping, they identified key retailers with customers in the same demographic, or the distributors working with them, and worked to grow their distribution," said Leigh Sims, PR representative for Conifer Specialties.

The products are available in 6,000 stores. New chains of distribution for the Canterbury Naturals line include larger chains like Albertsons, Stop N Shop and additional Whole Foods outlets, as well as smaller supermarket chains like Hannaford in the Northeast and Haggens in the Northwest. Conifer works with distributors including United Natural Food Inc., Tree of Life and Kehe Food Distributors, Sims said. The company also sells to independent grocers, gourmet stores and small independent chains.

Similar to its Canterbury Naturals line, Conifer also manufactures separate private-label products for several specialty retailers.
