Roasted coconut chip takes top new product honor |

NEW YORK- New England Herbal Foods' Danielle Fruit Chips - Roasted Coconut took home the coveted New Product sofi Gold on June 29.

Presented by the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade at the Summer Fancy Food Show, the sofi-- or specialty outstanding food innovation-- awards recognize outstanding specialty foods and beverages of the year in 33 categories. This year's competition had 1,997 entries.
Outstanding Product Line Gold sofi was awarded to DeMedici Imports, Ltd. for its A l'Olivier line.
Steve Kaufman, executive vice president of DeMedici Imports, said the company has been carrying the line for more than 20 years.
"A l'Olivier, France's oldest oil specialists in oil since 1822 , is a boutique company that is a master developer of new products and new concepts and is a master marketer of those items," he said.
Known for its olive oils and fruit vinegars, the French company recently introduced a spreadable olive oil. The shelf-stable product is 88 percent olive oil and about 10 percent vegetable fat that are blended in a patented process.
Available in Natural, Garlic & Herbs, Lemon, Truffle Flavored and Basil, A l'Olivier Extra Virgin Olive Oil Spreads are 100 percent natural and contain no additives, colorants, preservatives, no cholesterol and no trans fatty acids or chemicals.
"It's quite a revolutionary product," said Kaufman. "When you have a solid olive oil, you are eating the Mediterranean diet i.e. healthy. It is very concentrated so very little goes a long way." It's great on bread, on warm pasta or used on fish at the end of cooking, he added.
DeMedici carries about 45 SKUS of A l'Olivier line. The quality, the price point, variety of items and the packaging make this line a winner, he added.

More than 550 buyers at the Summer Fancy Food Show cast ballots to select the gold winners, and an outside accounting firm tabulated the results. This spring, a national panel of specialty food experts narrowed the field to 128 Silver Finalists during five days of judging at NASFT's offices here. "A sofi Award ensures that a company's product will be noticed by discerning buyers of specialty food and beverages across the country and around the world," said Ann Daw, president of the NASFT, in a prepared statement. "This year's winners show that innovation and excellence continue to thrive in our industry."
