A&P adds private-label cheeses
MONTVALE, N.J.-The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., based here, introduced a new cheese collection in October.

Included in the collection are Vintage Aged Gouda, a golden buttery cheese crafted from full cream milk and aged for six months, featuring hints of caramel and coffee; Cranberry Chipotle Cheddar, a classic white cow's milk cheddar, blended with cranberries and diced chipotle peppers; and Billy Blue, a distinctive goat's milk blue cheese, featuring mild white chevre, which presents a contrast to the sharpness of the blue.

The majority of the collection is produced in Wisconsin by premier cheese craftsmen, while other cheeses in the line hail from Europe.

"We are very excited to offer this new selection of artisan cheeses through our Hartford Reserve private label brand," said Sal Baio, vice president of Fresh, A&P, in a statement. "Instead of going to specialty cheese shops, our customers can now find world-class gourmet cheeses at their local A&P, Pathmark, SuperFresh and Waldbaum's stores, all at fantastic prices."

Hartford Reserve is one of more than 10 brands in the company's Own Brands private-label grocery program.

A&P operates 435 stores in eight states and the District of Columbia, under eight trade names.
