Wegmans continues to expand, opens fifth store in Virginia |

LEESBURG, Va.-Grocery retailer Wegmans opened its newest store here on Nov. 8, and has plans for more locations in the future.
The 139,000-square-foot store here, the fifth in Virginia, features 70,000-plus products, a Market Cafe with combined indoor and outdoor seating for 500, and a Food Bar with seating for 19 where chefs prepare fresh seafood and meat dishes to order for lunch and dinner.

 Also available are Wegmans' $6 meals and $5 pasta bowls, which were developed by Wegmans in response to customers who were looking for more affordable, yet healthy, prepared foods.
The company has plans for a sixth Virginia location in Alexandria, according to a company press release. Wegmans, which currently has one store in Maryland, is also planning on expanding there. It has plans for six Maryland sites in the future, including one in Landover that will open in 2010.
The Rochester, N.Y.-based company has opened three stores this year, including the new location here. The supermarket operator also opened in Collegeville, Pa., and Fredericksburg, Va. Wegmans now has 75 stores throughout New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia and Maryland.
