Party-ready food for the home will be the best bet for retailers this New Year's Eve. Twice as many Americans plan to go to bed before midnight on New Year's Eve than plan to go to a party, according to a survey of 1,099 adults by investor site MillionaireCorner.com.
More than one-quarter, or 28 percent, of those surveyed are staying home, versus 14 percent who are heading out to a party; 87 percent plan to spend less than $200.

 23 percent of consumers said they will entertain at home on Dec. 31, according to the survey. Just one in 10 say they will be going to a restaurant, 2 percent will be attending another event and 6% will be traveling then.
Americans also are holding down spending on New Year's Eve, with 87 percent planning outlays of less than $200. Just 9 percent say they will spend between $200 and $499, and 3 percent will spend $500 to $999. A very small number, or 1 percent, plan to spend between $1,000 and $1,999, and another 1% say they will spend more than $2,000.
