Freeland Foods CEO Pushes Go Raw Further in 2013 - Booth #2262
An interview with Go Raw Founder and CEO Robert Freeland
NH: How did Go Raw get started?

RF: I was inspired by my initial visit to the Optimum Health Institute, back when my father took me at age 17. The institute's teachings made quite an impact on me after just a few days, and I always wanted to go back. In 2000, I did go back, and liked it so much I stayed and got a job in the store. The store had some raw products, but the selection was limited, and right away I had the idea to create my own. So I borrowed a friend's recipe, made my own dehydrator and got started.

NH: Did you sell them at the institute's store?

RF: Surprisingly, no. By the time I made my first Flax Snax, the management had changed and they weren't accepting any outside vendor products. But I managed to get into the Ocean Beach Farmers Market in San Diego and I was so happy when I sold out on my first day.

NH: What's the secret to Go Raw's popularity?

RF: I can't say why everyone likes our products so much, but I'm very grateful they do. Most of the feedback we get is that customers like our products for the same reason we do: They're all completely organic, raw, vegan and kosher, as well as free of gluten, nuts and soy. I started making Go Raw products to provide my family and I with an alternative to the processed snacks on the supermarket shelves that were healthy and tasty, and I'm glad to see that there's other people out there who feel the same way.

NH: What's coming up in 2013 for Go Raw?

RF: I'm excited to say that there are some great new things happening for Go Raw this year. We just launched a new website that not only allows customers to buy all of our products online, it's also been designed to be a resource for people interested in the raw lifestyle. Also, continued sales growth has given us the capital to reinvest in the company, and we'll be building a new, 65,000-square foot, solar-powered production facility in San Jose, Calif., this year.

NH: What about new products?

RF: Yes, we are also developing some great new products that will be launched this year. Updates about product launches, along with contests, giveaways and events, will be posted on our Go Raw News section of the new website, http://news.goraw.com/, and on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. We're looking forward to building an online community and being able to communicate more with our customers through the new site. Head to www.goraw.com, call 650-962-9299 or email kristina@goraw.com - or stop by booth #2262 at Expo West.
