Performance Food Group Company has launched its latest seafood item, Bay Winds Fair Trade Certified Norwegian Salmon. Through a partnership with Beaver Street Fisheries, PFG has exclusive rights to distribute the only farmed salmon in the world that is Fair Trade Certified.

A program of Fair Trade USA, Fair Trade Certified is the only certification program that covers fundamental human rights, workplace safety and environmental stewardship while also providing a direct economic benefit to producers and their families. Kvaroy Arctic, producer of Bay Winds salmon, has helped build schools, introduced aquaculture education programs and created scholarships funds to promote farm sustainability, animal welfare and environmental protection.

Bay Winds Fair Trade Certified Norwegian Salmon portions are delivered frozen in 10-pound packages, and are packed in 4-ounce, 6-ounce or 8-ounce portions — skin-on or skinless. Just one four-ounce serving of Bay Winds Fair Trade Certified Norwegian salmon has more than 2,000 mg of omega 3s—exceeding the weekly recommended goal. Bay Winds Fair Trade Certified Norwegian Salmon has double the omega-3 content of other farmed salmon, due to the non-GMO food fed to the salmon during their growing period.

Bay Winds Fair Trade-Certified Norwegian Salmon is raised in a way that is most healthful for the fish, and the planet, too. These salmon portions are certified from Fair Trade USA, meaning this salmon is sourced responsibility by addressing impacts through social, environmental, and economic issues. Fair Trade USA standards go beyond fisheries and farms by protecting the rights of workers within the certified company and its supply chain.

Farm-raised, all-natural, sustainable and environmentally responsible Bay Winds Fair Trade- Certified Norwegian Salmon Portions will bring a little bit of Norway to any plate.

Fortune to Launch Snow Crab for Ukraine Initiative at Summer Fancy Food

Fortune International will launch its Snow Crab for Ukraine initiative at the Summer Fancy Food Show, July 12-14, in New York.

Fortune’s wild caught snow crab from the waters of the Bering and Okhotsk Sea will be sold during the event. For every pound sold under Snow Crab for Ukraine, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to support the World Central Kitchen’s relief efforts in Ukraine.

As a company, Fortune International stands in support of Ukraine and all global trade sanctions made against Russia and will not be engaging in further trade or procurement from Russian sources.

The Summer Fancy Food Show is the largest U.S. show devoted exclusively to specialty foods and beverages and is being held at the Javits Center in New York City. The event will also host the 2022 SFA awards for Leadership and Lifetime Achievement in addition to the induction of the 2022 class of the Specialty Food Hall of Fame.

Fortune International, which recently acquired D’Artagnan, a leader in popularizing the “farm to table” movement and purveyor of sustainable meat and all-natural food products, will continue to be showcased alongside Fortune’s other leading brands.

“We are pleased to continue showcasing the growing breadth and depth of the Fortune family at the Summer Fancy Food Show,” said President and CEO Sean O’Scannlain. “We have now completed two acquisitions this year and this is the second time we will be exhibiting with D’Artagnan, which significantly increased our platform of fresh seafood and sustainable meat and further expanded our distribution into the Northeast. For restaurants and retailers alike, we are increasingly seen as the preferred partner of choice for all their products, across all their markets. We look forward to engaging current and potential new customers in further discussion at the show.”

Ukraine Seafood Company Struggles to Survive, SeafoodSource Says

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues to devastate the nation, one seafood company is working hard to maintain production, despite huge losses such as the loss of 5,000 pounds of frozen fish when a warehouse was destroyed.

SeafoodSource editor Chris Chase looked at how Kiev-based Universal Fish Company, a leading Eastern European fish and seafood processing company, is faring in wartime.

“It is too early to make an estimate, as the hostilities have continued unabated, and the situation remains grim,” UFC’s Tetiana Krupenko is quoted in the article. “We lost over 5,000 tons of frozen fish in the largest warehouse, amounting to USD 15 million [EUR 13.9 million]. Another loss amounting to roughly USD 20 million [EUR 18.6 million] was in the logistic center in occupied part of Kharkiv region.”

Chase writes that the Ukraine seafood company “is eager to resume business inside and outside of Ukraine as soon as possible.”

“It is vitally important to restore our production and business overall and thus to support Ukraine’s economy,” Krupenko  told Chase. “Internal demand is much lower now, it is just about very basic items.

“So, any new export request would be highly appreciated. Any new customer from [the] E.U., U.S.A., and [the] rest of the world would be an opportunity for us.”
