Publix expands GreenWise banner
LAKELAND, Fla.--With the opening of its first natural and organic supermarket expected later this year, Publix announced Feb. 6 it is expanding its Publix GreenWise Markets banner to include two additional locations.

The new locations include a 37,000-square-foot store in Vero Beach, which is a conversion of an existing Publix store; and a 39,000-square-foot store built from the ground up in Tampa, according to a company statement. Opening dates for these stores have not been determined, the statement said.

Already in the works is its first GreenWise store in Palm Beach Gardens, set to open later this year and a conversion of a Publix store in Boca Raton.

Publix GreenWise Markets is built around Publix's natural food store-within-a-store, GreenWise. It provides produce, dairy, frozen food, vitamins, grocery items and sports nutrition products. The entire line is produced without any artificial ingredients, colors, flavorings, additives, pesticides, growth hormones or antibiotics.

"At Publix, we're committed to serving the changing lifestyle and nutritional needs of our customers," said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations, in a prepared statement. "We have seen exceptional growth in the health, natural and organic food areas of our traditional stores.

Publix, based here, has 895 stores in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
