OAKVILLE, Calif.--Leslie Rudd, chairman of gourmet retailer Dean & Deluca, has purchased the Oakville Grocery Co., according to a report last week by the San Francisco Chronicle.
Oakville Grocery Co., an upscale grocery retailer, was folding under financial stress when Rudd purchased its assets for an undisclosed figure, reported the Chronicle.

Known for specialty groceries and prepared foods, Oakville Grocery Co.'s three stores, located here and in Healdsburg and Palo Alto, will remain open. Currently there are no plans to make changes to the business operations, April Howell, spokesperson for Rudd, told the Chronicle, and all 70 Oakville Grocery employees will remain on.
"I want Oakville to continue to be the ultimate destination for wine country picnics as well as the source for local artisanal products," Rudd told the Chronicle. "My intention is to maintain Oakville Grocery as a separate brand and recreate as much as possible the historic feel."
In addition to Dean and Deluca, Rudd owns Rudd Vineyards and Winery here, and Standard Beverage Corp., a Kansas-based alcoholic beverage distributor.
