TSP Spices takes gold at gourmet show
ORLANDO, Fla.--First-time exhibitor TSP Spices took home the Best of Show award at The Gourmet Housewares Show here for its organic spice line.

The Baltimore-based company, created by Katie Luber and Sara Engram, introduced its 24-SKU line in January. Each tin contains 12, one teaspoon-sized packet sealed to preserve the spice's freshness.

"We wanted to solve the problem of stale spices and different size spice containers," said Luber, who serves as president. "We wanted to revolutionize spice storage."

Awards were presented in five categories:

*Kitchen Electrics: Zojirushii for the Rizo Micom Rice Cooker and Warmer

*Tabletop and Textiles: ZAK Designs for the Confetti Dinnerware

*Gadgets, Cutlery and Accessories: Fusionbrands for the Poach Pod

*Gourmet Gifts and Specialty Foods: Real Chef for Flavor Magic

*Cookware/Bakeware: BRK of Germany for the Pressure Cooking System

*And the show honored Chefs Catalog with this year's Retailer Humanitarian Award for its commitment to philanthropic initiatives.

Susan Corwin, vice president and show manager, said this year's product competition had 126 entries--a 75 percent increase over last year.

The winners were announced at the show's opening night party Tuesday in the Orlando's History Center. The event was a fundraiser for anti-hunger non-profit Share Our Strength. Each year a panel of industry experts and press judge the Gourmet Golds.

Next year the 32nd Gourmet Housewares Show, managed by George Little Management, returns to the Las Vegas Convention Center May 6-8 and will be co-located with the National Hardware Show and the Global Home Textiles Show.
