Shoppers 'Feast!' on Cheeses at book signing
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.--In conjunction with Jeff Roberts signing his book, "The Atlas of American Artisan Cheese," Feast! hosted a free tasting of American artisan cheeses and discussion on the importance of artisan and local food production on Aug. 23.

Following the discussion and tasting, Roberts answered questions and signed copies of his book that was available for purchase at the event. The tasting portion of the event included contributions by several of Central Virginia's food artisans including cheesemaker Gail Hobbs-Page from Caromont Farms and wine maker Gabriele Rausse from Gabriele Rausse Winery.

Organized by region and state, "The Atlas of American Artisan Cheese," published by Vermont-based Chelsea Green Publishing, highlights more than 350 of U.S. small-scale cheesemakers. Each entry describes a cheesemaker and the cheese's availability and location.

Roberts is a co-founder and principal consultant to the Vermont Institute for Artisan Cheese at the University of Vermont and is an organizer of Slow Food USA's American Raw Milk Cheese Presidium.

Located in the Main Street Market, Feast! is an independently owned and operated food store specializing in fine cheeses, cured meats, local produce, prepared foods and wines. Feast! has been an active participant in the local food movement since opening more than five years ago.
