World beer aficionado Michael Jackson dies |

LONDON--Renowned for writing about the world of authentic beer--from British ales, Belgian Lambics to Czech Pilsners--beer journalist Michael Jackson died Aug 30 of a heart attack in his London home, according to a post on his Web site, www.thebeerhunter.com. He was 65.
Jackson began his career as a journalist in 1958 and in the 1970s after the Campaign for Real Ale in Great Britain sparked his interest in traditional beers he began writing about beer and spirits, according to Jackson's Web site. About 20 years ago, he hosted a TV documentary--"The Beer Hunter" which became his nickname.

 Over the years, Jackson wrote several books on the subject including "The World Guide to Beer," first published in 1977. It has sold more than two million copies worldwide and the fifth edition was printed last year.
He also wrote "Michael Jackson's Beer Companion," "The Great Beers of Belgium," and "The Pocket Guide to Beers."
According to the "Washington Post," Jackson once said he wanted his work "to elevate the understanding, the diversity and the nobility of beer."
