Trader Joe's nixes Chinese goods
MONROVIA, Calif.--In response to consumer's concerns about organic products from China, natural and organic retailer Trader Joe's said it will phase out foods imported from the region by Jan 1.

The grocer, based here, will only discontinue single-ingredient products from China. Products containing multiple ingredients, some of which may be from China, will still be sold, reported the Chicago Sun-Times Oct. 20.

"We feel confident that all of our products from China meet the same high quality standards that we set for all of our products," Alison Mochizuki, Trader Joe's spokesperson, wrote in an email, according to the article. "However, our customers have voiced their concerns about products from this region and we have listened."

China has faced numerous exporting scandals this year, including contaminated toothpaste and pet food tainted with industrial chemicals.
