Indian spice company goes online
ATLANTA--Modern Day Masala, a family-owned specialty food company based here, launched www.ModernDayMasala.com.

The site sells the Modern Day Masala's organic spice blends. Back in 2007 Kristin and Ravi Sharma created the spice company upon the philosophy that food prepared with love and shared with family and friends tastes best.

"We began by teaching Indian cooking classes, with recipes passed down from my husband's family," said Sharma, in a prepared statement. "Students loved the results, but wanted to get from start to finish more quickly. The idea of preparing and packaging fresh spices with recipes was our answer."

To keep things simple for home cooks, each blend is uniquely suited for a particular recipe, which is included, along with easy-to-follow steps. Selections include traditional Indian favorites like Butter Chicken spice blend, Vegetable Gold spice blend, and Heart Warming Lentil Soup. The blends are designed to go from stove to table in about 30 minutes.

Originally available at farmers' markets and select gourmet retailers here, Modern Day Masala's spice blends are available online.

In keeping with Modern Day Masala's mission to sustain tradition and nourish community, all business practices are eco-friendly. Organic spices used in the blends are sourced from fair trade farms, recycled materials are used in shipping packages, and tasting supplies, gift basket elements, and shopping bags are biodegradable and compostable. Customers are encouraged to pair the spice blends with locally grown foods.
