The 16,000-square-foot store opened in September 2008 as a test concept store, designed to cater to busy, on-the-go working professionals in Chicago's Lincoln Park community, said Karen May, communications manager for Jewel-Osco.

Urban Fresh offered products such as ready-to-eat gourmet meals and organic produce. It also featured a wine and cheese shop.

"After a year of gathering key sales data and consumer feedback, the test is now over and Jewel-Osco has decided to close the store," May said.

The 57 store employees will be shifted to other stores.

May added that the company plans to sublease the property and is willing to discuss offers from interested parties.
