Argentina’s Proemio Joins the Zonin Family Global Portfolio

The Zonin Family’s 1821 Fine Wine & Spirits U.S. subsidiary adds Argentinian winery Proemio to its growing global portfolio. Proemio is a family-owned, boutique winery led by third-generation Mendoza-born winemaker, Marcelo Bocardo. Proemio means “Prologue” in Old Medieval Spanish; the winery has been certified Organic since 2017 and is also certified as a Fair for Life company.

In 2001, Marcelo Bocardo, the descendant of an Italian immigrant family, founded Proemio Winery with the goal to handcraft sustainable top-quality super and ultra-premium wines with an emphasis on the unique character of their soil. “Marcelo’s vision is evident throughout the foundation of this award-winning portfolio. “The opportunity to participate in Proemio’s success extends across chains, fine wine and the on-premise throughout the U.S.” said Shawn Balzano, 1821 Fine Wine & Spirits Sales Director.

“As an Italian descendant, it is a great honor to partner with the Zonin family.  We share the same passion for viticulture; crafting authentic, terroir driven wines, while caring for the environment for future generations. It is part of our philosophy,” said Bocardo.
